Owner of Beachside Midwifery

 Sarah Marks | LM CPM

My name is Sarah Marks, owner of Beachside Midwifery. As a Midwifery studies graduate, community health worker, certified doula, lactation counselor, and childbirth educator, I’ve been supporting families since 2000.

Located in Port Orange, FL, Beachside Midwifery is built on the belief that women deserve informed, empowered, and safe birth experiences. I am dedicated to honoring each family's choices with respect and ethical care.

As a mother and wife, I bring both professional expertise and personal understanding to my work, ensuring families feel supported every step of the way.

Lead Midwife

Karen Kennedy | LM, Preceptor

My name is Karen Kennedy. I’ve been in Midwife for 26 years. Last year I took a much-needed break from Midwifery. Sarah, Beachside Midwifery owner, coaxed me out of retirement and I’m so honored to be joining the team.
I have served this community working with local hospitals through my maternity clinics as well as provided home births and birth center deliveries. I’ve been privileged to catch over 1400 babies and my love of families is reflected in the quality care I have provided in the past and will continue to do so with Beachside Midwifery.
Teaching is also a passion and the students I’ve had over the years range for many, many midwife students, nursing students, Arnp’s, as well as a few family practice residents.
Volusia county has been my home for over 40 years and here is where I raised my two amazing children. I’m also grateful to be able to watch my four granddaughters grow up and flourish locally.
Besides Midwifery, I am a potter and honing my skills as a fiber artist. One of the other things I’m excited about is the ability to share my herbal concoctions with women, aiding in nurturing and healing their bodies throughout pregnancy, as well as the postpartum period.

Birth Assistant & Educator

Maribell Opperman

Maribell Opperman is a wife, mother of two adventurous boys, and a founder of Chaska Midwifery & wellness. Inspired by my grandmother in Peru, who served her community as a traditional midwife, I carry a deep love and passion for nurturing and empowering mothers through informed consent and family -centered care. She worked as a midwife in Peru for many years in hospitals settings, caring for women and families through a wide variety of birth experiences. On her journey to become a midwife in USA, she obtained many certifications that embrace and encourage the natural and physiological birth to support better my clients in Central Florida.

She has been working as a birth assistant for many midwives in central Florida in home birth settings for 4 years. Experiencing both hospital and home birth environments she has shaped the way she care for families today- with open heart, respect for informed choices, and a strong desire to help expectant parents feel supported and empowered in whatever path is right for them. Our goal is to create a warm and peaceful space where you can trust your body, feel empowered in your choices, follow your instincts, and embrace your journey with confidence and love. We would be truly honored to support your growing family!!

Clinical Administrative Assistant

Flavia Lima

Flavia Lima brings nearly 20 years of experience working in birth and women’s health. Her career began in Brazil, where she trained as a Physical Therapist specializing in women’s health, pelvic floor therapy, obstetric care, and high-risk pregnancies.

Early in her education, Flavia discovered her passion for supporting women through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. While completing her physical therapy degree, she became involved in a program at a local public hospital serving low-income and teenage mothers, providing prenatal, labor, and postpartum care. This experience inspired her to pursue specialized training in urogynecological physical therapy.

Today, Flavia is a proud graduate of  midwifery studies at the Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery.

Throughout her career, Flavia has had the privilege of witnessing the profound impact birth workers can have on the birth experience and birth outcomes. Her extensive experience, compassionate approach, and deep passion for birth make her a wonderful addition to the Beachside Midwifery community.

Flavia is truly passionate about births and supporting families—and we are so excited to have her journey become part of ours.
